Welcome to the official website of the Coastal Invitational Baseball Tournament held at Waccamaw High School in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

The Coastal Invitational Tournament in Pawleys Island, S.C. was created to showcase the best high school baseball talent in the state in our own backyard. Thus the term “South Carolina High School Baseball at its Best”.

The Coastal Invitational tournament is 1 of 3 high-level tournaments recognized by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association ( Teams classification range from 1A – 5A and are selected each year based upon their potential for the upcoming season and collegiate level players that help draw in the college and pro scouts.

2020 Team Outlook 
The 2020 Aynor Blue Jackets will return five starters to a team that finished last year with an overall record of 14-8. The Blue Jackets will open this season with some returning experience and an exciting mixture of younger players. They are working to build from last year’s success where the team won fourteen games and finished as District V AAA Champions. The Blue Jackets lace their schedule with quality non-region opponents (Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Fox Creek, and Strom Thurmond) in preparation for highly competitive region play. The Aynor Blue Jackets are excited to be a part of the 15th Annual Coastal Invitational.

2020 Team Outlook The 2020 Braves return 8 lettermen and 7 starters. Returning are the top 2 pitchers (Maddux Smith & Joey Yura), leading stolen base player (Ethan Brekke), two of our leading hitters (Maddux Smith & Cooper Bryson) and our catcher Caid Byrd, who threw out 14 base runners last year. The Braves are excited to start their season at the Coastal Invitational which we consider a first class tournament from the way it is run, the competition and hospitality!

2020 Team Outlook 
The 2020 Waccamaw Warriors baseball team will return 7 lettermen and 5 starters to a team that finished the season with a 13-11 record in 2019. The Warriors failed to qualify for the post-season in 2019; something that hasn’t occurred in the past 18 years. The Warriors will look to become competitive by playing a quality schedule lazed with 5A teams: Wando, Socastee, & St. James and 3A opponents Aynor, Dillon, Bishop England and Strom Thurmond. The Warriors hope to have some success when they open the season in their own back-yard during the 15th Annual Coastal Invitational.

The 2020 Wando Warriors baseball team will return many of 2019 squad. On the mound 4 starters return. The Warriors have a talented, hard working, energetic group who look to continue the fine tradition of Wando Baseball. Wando will compete in a challenging AAAAA Region VII. The Warriors hope to have some success when they open the season during the 15th annual Coastal Invitational.

2020 Team Outlook 
The Panthers return 12 letterman and 7 starters on the defensive side and 2 pitchers. David Wellons, Asher Sanboeuf, and Josh Douglas look to lead a youthful, yet experienced pitching staff. Derek Rogers and Nolan Edwards (2019 All-State Performer) look to lead a solid defensive infield group with new faces at the corners. Blake Cox (Erskine College) and Chase Hughes (Presbyterian College) are off to play college baseball leaving voids at 1B and 3B. The outfield will be led by Luke Janack and Tyler Davis. Both of whom started most of the season last year. Behind the dish, JT Rice will look solidify the position for a 2 nd year. The Panthers will also be looking to a host of new and younger faces to help bolster then this year.

Joey Worley
Coach Worley is a 1995 graduate of Princeton High School in Princeton, NC. While there he played football, basketball, and baseball. After high school, Coach Worley went on to East Carolina University where he played baseball for 2 years and was a student assistant coach & equipment manager for 2 more years. During his time at ECU, Coach Worley was fortunate to work alongside of one of his mentors, Coach Keith LeClair. After graduating from ECU, Worley began his amateur coaching career which has spanned for 21 years. Coach Worley is entering his 4th season as Head Coach at Carolina Forest High School. Joey and his wife Susan have an 11 year old daughter Ava and two fur-babies, Ace and Kipa.

Coach Pasco is a 1990 graduate of Wheeling Park High School in Wheeling, WV. Coach Pascoplayed his collegiate baseball at Mercer University in Macon, GA. Coach Pasco began his coaching career at West Liberty State College before going back to his high school alma mater. Coach Pasco has been coaching for 26 years in 3 different state including stints as Head Coach at Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, OH and Wheeling Post 1 American Legion. Coach Pasco is entering his 8 th season as a member of the Carolina Forest High School coaching staff. Tom and his wife Angie has an 11 year old son Gatlin and a step-son Dakotah

Karl Pappacena
Coach Pappacena is from New Jersey. Coach Pappacena played Junior College baseball in New Jersey before hanging up the spikes due to a shoulder injury and moving south to Coastal Carolina University. Coach Pappacena graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in Physical Education and is now a Physical Education teacher at Ocean Drive Elementary School. Coach Pappacena is entering his 4th year as a coach at Carolina Forest High School.

2020 Team Outlook 
The 2020 Cheraw Braves Baseball Team will return 7 starters to a squad that finished with an overall record of 23-8. The Braves will open the season with some experience, but with a mixture of some less experienced starters/players that will be asked to play different roles during the 2020 season and look to build off last year’s success of winning a Region Championship in 3A classification. As it is every year, we hope to improve as the season progresses, and give our team a chance to get some valuable experience as we compete for a region championship and positioning for a playoff run. The Coastal Invitational is a first-class tournament that we will use to gain this experience to hopefully reach our team goals throughout the year.

2020 St. James Sharks

2019 Team Record / Info 
(18-11) overall., Won Region VIII first time in AAAAA, and Won VIII District. Playoffs: Lost in Lower States to eventual state champion Dutch Fork. Lost 5 seniors to graduation.

2020 Team Outlook 
The 2020 team returns a strong group with varsity experience and 4 strong seniors (all are/will be college signees). Ethan Salak (JR Coastal Carolina commit) will anchor the pitching staff. He was all region and all state in 2019 and had a 6-1 record on the mound with 1.51 era and opponents batted 0.178 against him. He also struck out 51 batters while walking only 22. Shawn Taylor (SR and Coker signee) will most likely be the sharks #2 arm. He logged 40 innings last year wing 4 games and bosting a 1.61 era. The sharks also have Tyler Satterley (JR), Alex Leo (SO), Jonah Buck (JR), Jackson Fitcher (JR), Braiden Eagen (8 th ), and Nate Haynes (JR). Pitching will once again be a strong suite for St James.
The sharks will be strong up the middle with Nate Haynes (JR), Alex Leo (SO), and Satterley (JR). Will Sandt (JR), Taylor (SR), Eagen (8 th ) and Marshall Freeman (SR Florence Darlington Tech signee) will play corner positions and be impact players and big sticks in the lineup. When he is not pitching, Ethan Salak will play centerfield and is one their best returning hitter. Along with Ethan, Seth Spielman (JR), and Randy Smith (SR Southeastern, FL football signee) brings experience to the outfield, speed and good bats to the lineup. Behind the dish the sharks return one of the top catchers in SC in Nikko Andre (SR unsigned with multiple college offers). Andre is the sharks top returning bat (.312 in 2019). Newcomer Blake Lauria (SO) brings depth to the catching position and speed to the lineup. St James will look to continue a trend of strong shark defense plus put up big run totals in 2020.

2020 Team Outlook 
The Seahawks return five starters from last year’s team. All but one player from last year’s pitching staff returns and a strong defensive core remains. This will be Beach Baseball’s first trip to the CIT and we look forward to a great tournament.

2020 Players to Watch
Senior Derek McPherson is a Lynchburg(VA) University commit. Derek is a solid defender who can play anywhere on the infield and will hit in the middle of the lineup.

Senior Ethan Brown is a LHP who is undecided about where he will play in college. He is a deceptive lefty strike thrower who will start in the OF when he’s not pitching and will be counted on to drive in runs for the Seahawks.

Junior Austin Gordon is a 6’4” RHP/IF who has begun to draw D1 attention in the last year. He is slated to be a starting pitcher and will play SS or 3rd base when not on the mound.

Junior Tyler Burgess will start in CF and also be a starting pitcher for the Beach. He will bat lead-off and will be the table setter for the Seahawks.

Junior Brandon Bruce returns as the top utility man for the Hawks. He can play any position on the field and is the top returning reliever.

Sophomore Ryu Yamazaki is a Japanese exchange student joining the Seahawks in 2020. He is a solid defender in both the infield and outfield and has shown the ability to consistently hit for average thus far.
